Creating a world-class manufacturing base in Malaysia
Our factory in Shah Alam, approximately 27 kilometers from Malaysia’s capital, Kuala Lumpur, manufactures millions of cigarettes every day for domestic and export markets. It is JTI’s regional manufacturing hub for Asia, and plays a significant role in the Company’s global supply chain.
The factory was opened in 1970 by the Gallaher Group and subsequently acquired by RJ Reynolds in 1974. It became a part of the JTI business following our acquisition of RJ Reynolds’ international operations in 1999.
Today, more than 300 people work at Shah Alam, manufacturing some of the world’s best-known cigarette brands. These products are destined for stores across Malaysia and beyond – to countries throughout the Asia region.
We have invested to upgrade the factory into a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. Our investments have focused on increasing the factory’s efficiency and productivity. This includes our efforts to minimise waste and make smarter use of resources – working more effectively and reducing the impact of our business on the environment. We also make sure that this is a safe place for all of our employees and visitors.
We put quality at the heart of everything we do, and we are constantly challenging ourselves to do better. At Shah Alam, our highly skilled international team works to the Japanese philosophy of Kaizen – continuous improvement. This ensures that the products we make are of the highest standards and that we satisfy the demands of our customers.
