JTI (Japan Tobacco International), a member of the JT group, is Russia’s number one manufacturer of tobacco products.
JTI was founded in 1999, when Japan Tobacco acquired the non-American business of US-based R.J. Reynolds. In 2007 it bought Britain’s Gallaher in a deal which nearly doubled its size.
Today, JTI products are sold in 120 countries and the company employs 27,000 people. It is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland.
The company manufactures and sells international cigarette brands such as Winston, Camel, Mevius, Sobranie, Glabour and LD, as well as local brands like Russian Style, Peter I, More, Saint George, Troika and others.
JTI’s portfolio includes three of the top-ten selling brands in Russia.
JTI is also one of Russia’s largest foreign investors. Its total direct investments in the Russian economy have reached 1.9 billion dollars.
Russia is the site of the company’s largest production facility.
Since 2016, JTI will maintain leadership on the Russian market with its Petro factory in St. Petersburg as the single finished goods production platform, annexing production facilities of Liggett-Ducat factory after its closure.
There are also two raw tobacco processing facilities operating successfully in Russia: JTI Yelets in Lipetsk Region and Cres Neva in Leningrad Region.

JTI Russia’s marketing and sales function operates from offices in 67 cities of the country.
The company’s head office is located in Mercury City Tower, a modern skyscraper in western Moscow. In 2016, the city’s Department for Environmental Management and Protection named JTI’s office the most environmentally friendly in Moscow thanks to its rational use of water. That same year the office won a Best Office Award 2016 in the Comfortable Environment category.

Some 4,000 people work in JTI Russia offices and factories. In 2016, the Top Employers Institute, an international organization, named JTI one of the world’s eight best employers and JTI Russian (and its Petro factory in St. Petersburg in particular) one of the best in Russia.
The company invests substantial resources in employee development every year, opening up new professional and career opportunities. Thanks to those investments, more than 90 percent of management positions in Russia are filled by internal employees, who are promoted to increasingly senior positions.
