How can I get an annual report?

JT International, as a subsidiary company, does not have an annual report. However Japan Tobacco, our parent company, has posted the annual reports and other information on their site at http://www.jti.co.jp/JTI_E/IR/06/annual2006/annual2006_E_all.pdf

In what direction is JTI heading?
Our vision is to be the undisputed leader in the tobacco industry in the 21st Century. We are working towards this by offering quality products that are driven by our customers' tastes. This strategy is backed by a commitment to enhancing our distribution through international alliances, and a substantial investment program in our "Global Flagship Brands".

We would like to use some information from your site for a publication. Is this possible?
Although the information on our site is intended for the public, we have reservations about it being reprinted in other sources. This may lead to the material being used in situations out of our control, for example in the education of minors. Therefore, we do not provide permission for any information on our site to be republished in part or in whole.

Careers

How do you go about selecting people?
Initial selection is via an application form or CV. On the basis of your application, you may be invited to attend a series of interviews and/or assessment days. These will be conducted by a mixture of recruitment specialists and trained managers from the business area you're applying to.

What qualifications do I need to work for JTI?

We are always interested in outstanding candidates who can contribute to our growth and success. Our requirements vary by position and country. CVs should be sent to the person responsible for recruitment in the country in which you want to work. You can find the name in the Human Resources Contact List in the Careers section.

We will keep your CV on file and contact you should we have a position matching your qualifications.

Can I choose where I'll be based?
When a job is based in more than one location (e.g. Sales Representative), you can state a preference, which we will try to accommodate. However, this will always be subject to where we have vacancies at the time and the operational needs of the business.

How useful are language skills?
Language skills are always an asset, particularly in areas involving direct contact with our customers. However, English is the standard company language.

What opportunities are there to work and travel abroad?
This is one of the real advantages of working for JTI. As you would expect of a major international company, overseas travel is an integral part of many positions. However at JTI, international assignments are a way of life. If you are interested in broadening your skills and experience with global opportunities, this is the place for you.

What opportunities are there for career progression?
The sheer size and diversity of our business means the opportunities for career progression are excellent. Whatever you want to do, whichever direction you want your career to take, there's an extremely good chance you will be able to do it here.

Do you support training towards professional qualifications?
Yes, particularly where it is part of your broader career development. We have close associations with the relevant professional bodies within the fields of Finance, Marketing, Sales, Human Resources, Global Supply Chain and IT. Where appropriate, we offer a generous package of support that includes time off for study and a substantial contribution towards exam fees and related expenses.

How would my performance be appraised?
Your progress will be monitored both informally, in discussions with your supervisor, and through an annual performance review. This is an opportunity for you to set clear goals for the forthcoming year and identify the skills and support you will need to achieve them. In most of our businesses, we have introduced an element of company performance related pay.

Product

Can I order your products online?

We do not do any sort of mail or internet order as this contravenes our company policy.

I’ve got an idea for your product. How do I share it?

We appreciate your interest, however it is company policy not to accept unsolicited ideas or inventions as this may create legal problems in the future.

We want to sell your products. Can I get a catalogue?
We distribute our products through a number of set contracted distributors and are not at this moment looking to expand that list. If you would like to get in touch with your nearest office the contact numbers and addresses of our worldwide offices can be found in the Worldwide Offices section.

Why are some products discontinued? Can I still buy them?

We continually review our products’ sales history. After analyzing the data  (against our financial objectives), we find that it is sometimes necessary to discontinue a product because of limited market penetration. In other cases, a product may be discontinued following the introduction of a similar product. Some stores may still sell the remaining discontinued products until sold out.

Why aren’t your products sold in my country? In the United States?
Distribution rights for products vary by country and are subject to legal restrictions.  While we have the international distribution rights for Camel, Winston and Salem, we cannot sell these brands in the United States.

Social Concerns/Community Outreach

How can I apply for sponsorship?
JTI has corporate policies to offer help with social projects, humanitarian causes, educational initiatives and cultural events, however, please note that we do not get involved with any activities involving minors as we manufacture and sell a product for adults only. For more information, please contact your local JTI office – you can find the contact details for all our offices all over the world in the Worldwide Locations section of this site.

How do you prevent children from buying your products?
As cigarette manufacturers we have an important role to play in addressing the problem of youth smoking. We firmly believe that minors should not smoke and this commitment is an important aspect of our business ethics. As a responsible company selling a controversial product we complement our ethical business behavior with meaningful initiatives contributing to the reduction of youth smoking which include Retail Access Prevention and education programs. Check our Youth Smoking Prevention section for more information.

To which charities do you contribute?
As a company drawing on local communities for employees and also for customers, we believe in putting something back into those communities- so we have corporate policies to offer help with social projects, humanitarian causes, educational initiatives and cultural events. For more information, please visit the Corporate Responsibility section of the site.

What about the rights of smokers?

We believe in the freedom of adults to choose whether they want to smoke.  However, we also believe that people are well advised to seek guidance on the risks associated with smoking. No one should smoke unless they understand the risks of doing so.

We advocate appropriate separation of smokers and non-smokers. We accept that the burden of responsibility lies with smokers rather than non-smokers.

The Smoker's Etiquette section of this site highlights some simple rules that we hope will help avoid conflict and generate respect on both sides.

What is your position on second hand smoke?

Many people have concerns about environmental tobacco smoke (ETS), also known as second hand smoke. While we do not believe that the scientific evidence, taken as a whole, is sufficient to establish that ETS is a cause of disease, we nevertheless believe in the right of non-smokers to be free from a smoky atmosphere.

For more information, read our position paper on Second Hand Smoke.
