This week will see the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Framework Convention on Tobacco Control’s (FCTC) seventh Conference of the Parties (COP7) take place in Delhi. For six days it will bring together 180 Parties, including delegates from almost every country in the world.

On September 29, the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) announced that smoking in Australia is now at an “all-time low”. This should come as no surprise: smoking is in decline in almost every country in the world and Australia is no different. The AIHW stated in media reports that plain packaging may – among other factors – have influenced these results.
