Our background

We’ve been working with tobacco since an Irishman called Tom Gallaher started wrapping cigarettes by hand to sell to customers in 1857.

Gallaher grew to become the fifth-largest tobacco company in the world. In 2007 Japan Tobacco bought Gallaher for £9.4bn.

Today, the UK is one of JTI’s top five markets. We sell some of the nation’s best-known brands and we employ more than 1,800 people.

Half of our UK employees help make our products in our factory in Northern Ireland. After that, it’s down to the people in our offices in Weybridge, Manchester and Crewe to support our brands as well as our sales people, who visit hundreds of retailers around the country every month.

In the UK we are recognized by our globally-renowned consumer brands. Behind their success is a company whose own corporate brand is lived everyday through the actions and behaviors of our employees.
