Child labor

Child labor is not acceptable. We are working to eliminate child labor in the communities where we do business.

In many parts of the world where tobacco is grown, there is a strong tradition of children working alongside adults on farms.

Child labor is a complex problem without a simple solution. We work with our tobacco growers and their communities to provide long-term, sustainable solutions. We improve access to education by providing transport, school materials and scholarships, and by educating farming communities on the benefits of education.

Our anti-child labor program is called ARISE. This program is being carried out in partnership with US-based organization Winrock International and the International Labor Organization (ILO).

ARISE takes approximately 26 children out of work every day
