Illicit trade in tobacco products is a global challenge. It supports organized crime, undermines legitimate businesses, and deprives governments of tax revenue. Illicit products may also fail to comply with applicable regulatory and product requirements.
Effectively combating illicit trade requires cooperation among governments, law-enforcement authorities, and legitimate industry participants. JTI supports these efforts by sharing expertise and working with relevant authorities and stakeholders.
The level of illicit tobacco trade in Armenia has traditionally remained comparatively low for more than a decade. As part of our continued support for national authorities, we have contributed expertise and capacity-building initiatives to strengthen the identification of illicit and counterfeit tobacco products.
