Youth Access Prevention

Regulations

Children should not have access to tobacco, vaping or other nicotine products. This belief is central to JTI’s Code of Conduct, marketing practices, operational policies and the way we do business. While the proportion of children who smoke or vape remains very low at 1%[1], it is vital this is reduced even further.

At JTI UK, we are committed to youth access prevention by supporting initiatives, campaigns and legislation which prevents minors from accessing tobacco, vaping or other nicotine products.

Children should not have access to tobacco, vaping or other nicotine products - as such we are committed to supporting retailers in their efforts to prevent underage sales.

Generational Smoking Ban

The Tobacco and Vapes Act introduces a generational smoking ban, making it illegal from 1st January 2027 to sell tobacco products to anyone born on or after 1st January 2009. As the regulatory landscape evolves, JTI UK remains committed to supporting retailers in understanding and implementing new requirements. Updated signage will be available to download or order ahead of the new requirements, supporting retailers in communicating the law clearly to customers and preventing underage sales

Established in 2004, the No ID, No Sale! campaign has raised awareness of the minimum legal age to buy age-restricted products, such as tobacco, through a free-of-charge retailer toolkit for in-store use. Our Business Advisers distribute No ID, No Sale! packs to retailers which include materials and advice to prevent under-age sales, reminding shop staff and younger customers that valid proof-of-age is required when buying tobacco, vaping products and other nicotine products. Sales units that we supply to retailers also carries the No ID, No Sale! messaging.

The No ID, No Sale! retailer pack includes:

  • A statutory A3 tobacco age notice, posters and other in-store display materials

  • Best-practice guide for store staff

  • CitizenCard application forms (UK Government Approved proof of age)

  • Refusal Register – to record everyone who fails to produce valid ID when asked, which shows enforcement agencies like Trading Standards that the retailer is enforcing a proof-of-age policy
