Breaking Barriers to employment for refugees

Breaking Barriers is a specialist refugee employment charity which welcomes refugees into meaningful employment and enables them to build new lives. JTI UK supports Breaking Barriers to equip refugees with the skills and opportunities to access fulfilling employment so they can find financial independence, purpose and identity through work.

Breaking Barriers helped Baldomero to understand the UK job market, improve his CV and gain interview experience. He’s now employed whilst studying web development.

When I arrived in the UK, I felt lost and unsure where to start. Breaking Barriers gave me the guidance, confidence and practical support I needed to navigate the job market. Their support is life-changing, providing hope and opportunities when people need them most

Malala Aristizabal Munoz, Demand Planning Manager is the Co-Chair of our Community Committee and feels proud to work alongside colleagues to bring our purpose to life every day.

Being Co-chair of the Community Committee means working with colleagues from different parts of the business to build meaningful partnerships with our charity partners and to make a positive impact in our communities that goes far beyond what any KPI can measure. Our employees really care, and they choose to make a difference through volunteering and fundraising. The skills, perspectives, and connections I've gained through this experience are something I'll carry throughout my career.

Employee Power

Our employees volunteer their time to help others and raise funds for causes they care about, contributing to their local communities whilst developing valuable skills to take back to the workplace.

Every JTI UK employee can dedicate 50 working hours each year to volunteer with charities which promote inclusion or protect the environment.

David Fodor, Business Adviser, volunteered at several employability skills workshops for refugees.

I find volunteering incredibly rewarding. I really enjoy supporting others, and I gain a lot from it personally too. Supporting our charity partner’s refugee clients gave me the opportunity to continue developing my people management and coaching skills gained in previous roles. Volunteering also gave me the chance to visit the office, expand my network and explore other roles. I value that JTI supports employees to volunteer in their communities and I always encourage my colleagues to get involved too.
