The JTI Foundation

Supporting disaster management worldwide

The JTI Foundation has been supporting disaster relief and disaster risk reduction programs for more than 20 years. Over this time, the JTI Foundation has used its growing expertise to build a network of specialist partner organizations that help victims of natural and man-made disasters in countries where JTI operates.

Climate change and continuing geopolitical instability mean that such events have sadly been increasing in frequency and intensity, often affecting vulnerable communities the most.

What are the Foundation’s aims?

Founded in 2001, our goal has been to foster communities around the world that are safe, sustainable and more resilient to natural and manmade disasters.

How is the JTI Foundation helping?

We support projects that help people affected by disasters to rebuild their livelihoods. We also invest in long-term risk-reduction programs that raise community awareness and improve basic infrastructure.

Emergency relief

In 2023, the JTI Foundation supported our partners’ emergency aid interventions in countries as diverse as Brazil (wildfires), Italy (flooding), Malawi (cyclone), Morocco (earthquake), Sudan (civil war), Turkey (earthquake) and Ukraine (humanitarian demining).

Risk-reduction

However, our main focus is risk reduction. Promoting risk-awareness and strengthening critical infrastructure in vulnerable communities is key to the success of any other sustainable development initiatives. Recent long-term risk-reduction programs have included educating Indonesian communities on disaster-resilient construction techniques and increasing the resilience of marginalized rural communities in the Philippines.

Partnering with the best

The JTI Foundation’s work includes supporting large-scale and long-term programs. To deliver these, we partner with some of the world’s best-known and most accomplished disaster relief and disaster risk-reduction organizations. Our partners are both specialists operating ‘in the field’, and those with the management capabilities to ensure our support is having the most tangible, sustainable and effective impact possible. We consistently support our strategic partners’ capacity-building programs, ensuring their ability to respond to both immediate crises and the long-term challenges of disaster risk management is optimized.
