Sustainable agriculture

Securing long-term supply and creating shared value

Our approach

We secure a long-term supply of quality tobacco leaf and create shared value for our growers and business. Through extension services, including crop inputs aimed at increasing productivity, we enhance our social and environmental impact. This helps growers become more productive, efficient, and responsible with resources, ultimately supporting their profitability.

Making sustainable farming a reality

Water and soil conservation

Our Minimum Agronomic Standards (MAS) include practices for water and soil conservation. These practices involve mulching to reduce water evaporation, using reservoirs for seedling production, and employing box ridges to capture rainwater within fields, reducing runoff and erosion. We also encourage growers to use seasonal crop rotation and practice minimum tillage.

The Target Crop Calendar, part of MAS, ensures that tobacco seedlings are planted at the optimum time of year, so their maximum water requirement aligns with consistent and adequate rainfall, reducing the need for local water extraction for irrigation.
