    How we work

    How we work

We know times have changed and many people are looking for a better work-life balance. Our New Ways of Working (NWOW) initiative, launched in August 2021, gives employees flexibility with when, where and how work is done. We truly embrace flexible working with our 50/50 work from home and office approach with 10am-2pm core hours. There may be some roles where physical presence is required including but not limited to Field Sales, Logistics and Facilities Management.

We also provide our employees with a monetary contribution towards their remote working set up to ensure it meets individual needs.

Continuing our commitment to providing an environment that is comfortable and inclusive for all, we give office-based employees the option to dress their own way.

    Wellbeing

    Wellbeing

At JTI, our people’s wellbeing is a top priority. We have been accredited by external bodies and backed up by our teams as having best-in-class wellbeing practices and mental health programmes. We equip our people with resources, education, and opportunities to make their wellbeing a priority, including physical and mental health, as well as financial and career support.

The biggest thing for me is that, as a company, JTI are normalising mental health. It’s empowered me to speak out. The last thing that was said at the conference was: "Talk about it. If you’ve got a story, tell your story." I’m at a point in my life where I can tell my story now.

    DE&I

Equal opportunities, diversity and inclusion policy

The Company understands the importance of employees to the long-term success of the business and creates an environment where people and success are recognised, by encouraging our employees to bring their whole selves to work. We are proud to be certified to a Platinum standard by Investors in People, in both the People and Wellbeing accreditations, the first company to achieve this.  We were recognised by the Top Employer’s Institute for the 12th year in a row and we have also been awarded Gold in both the Armed Forces Employee Recognition Scheme and Mind’s Workplace Wellbeing Index and maintained the Global Equality Standard.

We recruit for a wide range of roles and we look for a diverse range of talent to fill these positions, believing in the power of a diverse workforce and understanding that everyone has skills to offer. We have developed a range of well-established employee engagement channels to ensure that meaningful and regular dialogue on internal and external matters is maintained between the Directors and employees, including team and Company briefings, meetings with employees and employee unions, a Global employee engagement survey and global and local webcasts, videos, emails and Workplace (Facebook).

Our people’s wellbeing is also a top priority and we have best-in-class wellbeing practices and mental health programmes, which equip our employees with resources, education and opportunities to make their wellbeing a priority. We’re committed to becoming a fully inclusive business which breaks down barriers and creates a safe environment for all. We support Employee Resource Groups, education and awareness of Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) and are due to refresh our UK DEI action plan in 2024.

At JTI pride UK we want everyone to have the freedom and comfort to be able to be their authentic self regardless of sexual identity or orientation. The freedom to learn within and also about the LGBTQ+ community at your own pace because for us love is love and you ultimately define who you are not your gender or sexual preference.

    Work and Family Balance

    Work and Family Balance

We are proud of our family leave policy that includes a generous maternity package to primary care givers and up to 20 weeks paid leave to secondary care givers. This support is given to all parents regardless of location, sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression and whether you become a parent via adoption, surrogacy, or birth.

To compliment this, we also provide specialist support to help new parents and coaching for those returning from family leave as well as access to a knowledge hub, creating a holistic approach for families at JTI.

My daughter was born with Talipes (Club foot) which required regular hospital visits including surgery and full leg casting. I was concerned how I could incorporate these hospital visits and working full time. At first, I was hesitant in taking the full leave in case it affected my salary, career and also the amount of work I would return to, but these fears were soon dispelled as I realised this policy would allow me to be flexible. Throughout my family leave I was supported by the business and my line manager and gained a promotion during this time. Due to the flexibility in taking the 20 weeks, I was able to take an initial 8-week period from the birth where I was needed by my family and then a further 12 weeks for hospital visits. This time allowed me to spend quality time and create a stronger bond with my new daughter.

    Volunteering and Community Investment

    Volunteering and Community Investment

Our employees volunteer their time to help others and raise funds for causes they care about, contributing to their local communities whilst developing valuable skills to take back to the workplace. Employees can dedicate 50 working hours each year to volunteer with charities which promote inclusion or protect the environment.

Each year we bring the whole UK team together for our Big Community event to volunteer or raise funds for our charity partners. It’s important to us to work together as a team to support our communities and have fun doing it!

JTI UK’s community programme really stood out to me when I was looking at potential employers; the fact that the company enables employees to volunteer up to 50 hours per year was very attractive. I’m now a member of the Putney Community Committee, volunteering my time to have a positive impact in the communities close to our office. This volunteer role has been a welcome addition to my Graduate Scheme, helping me to grow my network and work on projects which are different to my day job.
