JTI Switzerland is the fastest growing tobacco company in Switzerland. Our success puts us under an obligation to take our social and environmental responsibilities seriously.
With people, operations and a supply chain that stretch across the entirety of the globe, we’re keenly aware that our business doesn’t operate in a vacuum. That’s why our Company’s global approach to Sustainability is not only focused on making the right decisions for our company, but also for consumers and society in general, as well as for our suppliers and employees.
Three Absolute Requirements for Sustainability form the foundation of our approach and the bedrock of the way we do business around the world:
Respect for Human Rights
Continuous improvement of the social and environmental impact of our operations
Good Corporate Governance and business standards
We have developed Sustainability commitments that take into account our business long-term needs while also addressing external expectations set forth by the global agenda of the UN SDGs. Our activities and targets contribute most significantly to nine specific SDGs and fall under four Focus Areas which we consider to be essential for sustainable value growth of our Company:
Products & Services
People
Supply Chain
Regulatory Environment & Illegal Trade
For each of these, we will provide a solid basis for measuring and benchmarking our performance over time, and we’ll be reporting on our progress regularly as we strive to fulfill the commitments that we have made.
In Switzerland, we attach a lot of importance to creating modern working conditions and to environmentally friendly production. Our corporate responsibility is based on a holistic three-pillar concept and finds expression in our objectives in the economic, environmental and social spheres:
JTI supports numerous national and regional projects. But our involvement goes beyond purely financial support: Many of our employees regularly devote their time to support good causes – for example on the annual Clean-Up-Day. We also support various cultural and social organizations – including the Foundation for the Severely Disabled of Lucerne, the Swiss Diversity Award Night and Pro Senectute in the Canton of Lucerne.
At a global level, we support sustainable agricultural practices, clean drinking water projects and measures to combat child labor. But we are also active in Switzerland – as demonstrated by our partnerships with IG saubere Umwelt and the Swiss Green Economy Symposium. In addition to an innovative environmental and energy program, we recently introduced a modern recycling system for our new, Reduced-Risk Products at our Dagmersellen site.

At JTI we are proud of our internationally renowned brands, which we manufacture in Dagmersellen. But our attachment to the region does not end at the factory gate: We actively engage with society at large and support numerous organizations and projects in the artistic, environmental and social fields. After all, this is our home.
BirdLife Luzern is committed to the protection, preservation and enhancement of the natural environment as well as the well-being of birds. Biodiversity is also something JTI cares about.
The Swiss Diversity Award Night honors people and organizations that promote diversity. JTI supports the gala event – and thus also social diversity and equal opportunities.
JTI works with IG saubere Umwelt to organize the Clean-Up-Day every year. In this way we actively demonstrate our commitment to a clean and litter-free environment.
In collaboration with the Museum of Art Lucerne and Pro Senectute Canton of Lucerne JTI is committed to bringing art closer to senior citizens through special projects.
